Vision

OpenAPO is a non-profit sustainability project supported by the Pharmaceutical Technology group at the Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW).One of its key focuses is providing compounding information for essential medicines based on the WHO Model List of Essential Medicines. A further aim is to network pharmaceutical and technical compounding knowledge to formulate essential medicines in the dosage forms needed, and ensure their availability by providing the information required in a database.
OpenAPO’s approach is an open system. Data are continually entered, modified, and improved. The information in the Master Batch Records includes simplified methods and procedures so that a minimum of technical equipment is needed for compounding and quality/identity testing of a product.
Medicine compounding information is not only vital to the pharmaceutical industry and its stakeholders, but also to those who need to provide treatment. OpenAPO aims to manage this knowledge in a sustainable way and ensure its availability.
